Syracuse, NY – With a pair of wins over SUNY Poly on Saturday, Brockport improved to 8-0 in the Empire 8. This marks Brockport softball's best start to the conference slate in over 30 years. The Golden Eagles are now 10-8 overall with two more E8 games on schedule for Sunday at Utica.
Brockport 11, SUNY Poly 1 – Game 1 Final
Liana DeValder (W, 5-2) had 11 strikeouts in the win, going the full 7.0 innings allowing just one run. Starting with a pair of runs in the first, Brockport's dominant pitching and strong hitting led to a convincing win to start the doubleheader.
The Golden Eagles took an early 2-0 lead and added to it in the fourth. They scored five more runs to take a 7-0 lead. SUNY Poly got on the board with one in the sixth, but Brockport finished the game with four more in the seventh.
To go with a great outing at pitcher,
Liana DeValder also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple, four runs batted in, and two walks.
Julia Hill had three RBIs in a 1-for-4 showing.
Colleen Davis added two more RBIs for the squad with a 2-for-5 day at the plate.
Brockport 7, SUNY Poly 6 – Game 2 Final
Game two saw three scoreless innings to get started, before Brockport's bats woke up. The Golden Eagles scored four runs to hold a 4-1 lead heading into the fifth. They added one more in the fifth, but the Wildcats had a big go with five to take a 6-5 lead late.
Brockport was able to respond in the top of the seventh to tie the game up at 6-6. Heading into extra innings, one run from the Golden Eagles in the eighth was all it took.
Saylor Ayers brought
Ciara Olivo home from third on a sac fly for the go-ahead run.
Colleen Davis started at pitcher, going 5.2 innings in a solid effort.
Liana DeValder (W, 6-2) earned the win in the final 2.1 innings of action, as she closed out the game at pitcher for the Golden Eagles.
Natalie Faas (2-2),
Caitlyn Dailey (2-4), and
Liana DeValder (2-4) all had two hits and one RBI in the contest.
Julia Hill (1-4) and
Reagan Myers (1-3) both added an RBI as well.
Teresa Cotty went 2-for-3 at the plate in game two. Hill, DeValder, and
Aubrey Ennis (1-3) all had doubles.
The Golden Eagles put their win streak and unbeaten E8 record on the line against Utica University on Sunday. First game of the set is scheduled for a 12pm start.
