Flag Football Downed at SUNY Geneseo, Will Take on Hartwick Saturday

Brockport, NY – The Brockport flag football team (6-3, 5-2 E8) fell to SUNY Geneseo (11-4, 6-1 E8) by a final score of 27-19 on Friday, April 17. Despite carrying a 13-7 lead into halftime, a 20-point second half by the Knights secured the Empire 8 Regular Season title for Geneseo.

Madison Beardsley led the Golden Eagles offensively both through the air and on the ground, finishing with 155 passing yards and 90 rushing yards (6.9 yards per carry) to go along with two passing touchdowns.

Trelani Harper emerged as Beardsley's top target, totaling seven receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown. The sophomore also made a significant impact on special teams, punting three times for 106 yards (35.3 yards per punt) and pinning Geneseo inside the 20-yard line. Harper continues her strong stretch of play, recording 10 receptions for 157 yards and three touchdowns over her last two contests.

Defensively, Lauren Cundra led the way with six tackles (five solo), one sack, and a 49-yard interception return. Ava Seelbach (one tackle for loss) and Ariana Kennedy each contributed six flag pulls.

Jaianna Byrd paced the defense with nine flag pulls and two pass breakups in a standout performance. Hannah Roxstrom delivered a strong two-way effort, recording five receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown on offense while adding five tackles and a sack on defense. The freshman established season highs in receiving yards and flag pulls in Empire 8 play.

Megan Gerber also contributed on both sides of the ball, rushing for 89 yards (8.9 yards per carry) and a touchdown while adding four flag pulls and a tackle for loss defensively. Ava Leyh made her presence felt on defense with an interception and four flag pulls.

Up Next: Brockport returns to action on Saturday, April 17, traveling to face Hartwick College at 3 p.m. The winner of the matchup will secure the No. 2 seed in the Empire 8 Conference Tournament.
