Brockport, NY – The Brockport baseball team (20-16, 16-3 E8) completed a three-game sweep of Alfred (2-35, 0-21 E8) with a 10-0, seven-inning shutout victory on Sunday, April 26. Seven Golden Eagle pitchers combined for the shutout effort, each tossing one inning in the conference win.
Evan Brock was one of six Brockport players to record multiple hits, leading the group with a home run. He finished 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
Matthew Coon (2B) and Michael Norton (2 2B) each scored a game-high three runs, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.
Quinn Mahoney produced from the leadoff spot, going 2-for-4 in a strong performance. Kyle Blake reached base three times, finishing 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
Blake Fortunato made the start at shortstop and turned in an excellent outing, going 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs, and a double.
After a scoreless first inning from Charles Searle, Brock's two-run home run highlighted a four-run opening frame for the Green and Gold. In the second inning, RBI doubles from Norton and Coon extended the lead, while an RBI hit from Steven Merkle pushed Brockport ahead 7-0.
Fortunato added RBI hits in both the fourth and sixth innings to stretch the advantage to nine runs. Cole Grazioplene later delivered a hit-by-pitch RBI in the seventh inning to seal the 10-0 victory.
Brendan Pajak, Evan Sullivan, and Tyler Arno (W, 1-1) each threw perfect innings in relief to keep the Saxons off the scoreboard.
