Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team took care of business at home against Keuka on Wednesday to remain undefeated in conference play. With the sweep, Brockport moves to 8-8 overall and 6-0 in the Empire 8 this season.
The Golden Eagles are currently sitting at the top of the Empire 8 Standings, as the lone team still unbeaten in league play. Brockport is off to a 6-0 start to conference action for the first time since 2006.
Brockport 4, Keuka 3 – Game 1 Final
The freshman standout
Liana DeValder (W, 4-2) did it all in this one for the Golden Eagles. At pitcher she threw a complete game with a new career-high in strikeouts, sitting down 11 Keuka batters and only walking one. At the plate she was 1-for-3, hitting a go-ahead solo home run in the six inning.
Brockport took advantage of some fielding errors from Keuka early on, helping to put three runs on the board in the first two innings. The Wolves came up big in the top of the sixth with a base clearing double to tie the game up at 3-3. However, the tie didn't last long thanks to
Liana DeValder's home run in the bottom of the sixth.
In the leadoff spot,
Erin Dougherty was 1-for-2 with one RBI and a pair of stolen bases.
Julia Hill also swiped a bag, while batting 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Reagan Myers came in to score a run, with
Isabella Moya bringing her in with an RBI double during a 1-for-2 outing.
Brockport 5, Keuka 2 – Game 2 Final
To start game two, Brockport struck first once again in the first inning. A Keuka error allowed
Julia Hill to touch home for an early 1-0 lead. However, this time the Wolves would take their first lead of the day with runs in the third and fourth. Brockport trailed Keuka 2-1 heading into the fifth inning.
Playing the hero once again for Brockport was
Liana DeValder. This time she blasted out a 3-run homer in the bottom of the fifth. DeValder's second home run of the day and third of the season put the Golden Eagles back on top 4-2.
Erin Dougherty knocked
Natalie Faas home in the sixth for an insurance run, creating the 5-2 final.
Makenna Hart (W, 1-3) picked up her first collegiate win at pitcher, going the distance against the Wolves in game two. The freshman allowed one earned run on four hits, while striking out a career-high eight batters with just one walk.
The Brockport bats were highlighted by
Liana DeValder's 3-run homer, as she was 1-for-2 with a walk at the plate.
Julia Hill stays hot in the box with a 3-for-3 showing that included a triple and two runs scored.
Erin Dougherty (1-4) and
Caitlyn Dailey (1-3) both connected for one RBI.
Aurora Sabins (1-1) continues to shine as a pinch hitter for Team 50, connecting for single when called upon in the sixth.
Isabella Moya was 1-for-3 with a run scored in the nine spot and
Paige Wentland went 1-for-2.

Isabella Moya all were credited with a stolen base.
Brockport is on the road this weekend for two more Empire 8 doubleheaders. First up on Friday is Utica (3/5pm) and then the team takes on SUNY Poly (1/3pm) on Saturday.
