La Crosse, WI - Gabriel Giannini delivered on the biggest stage, placing sixth overall in the men's decathlon at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. His total of 6,797 points set both a school record and personal best, earning him 1st-Team All-American honors.
Giannini came out firing on day one. He clocked 11.03 for second in the 100m, then matched that with another runner-up finish in the long jump at 7.14m. He added a personal-best throw of 12.36m for fourth in the shot put, cleared 1.83m for fifth in the high jump, and closed the day with a personal-best 49.79 for seventh in the 400m.
Day two tested his range. After a 16.09 for 17th in the 110m hurdles and 27.58m for 20th in the discus, Giannini answered with the highlight of his meet — winning the pole vault with a clearance of 4.65m. He followed with 45.26m for 13th in the javelin and finished the competition with a season-best 5:05.60 for 16th in the 1500m.
The 6,797-point performance secured sixth place overall and rewrote the school record book. With the top-8 national finish, Giannini earns 1st-Team All-American status in the decathlon.
