A Year to Remember
Following the 2022 cross country season, Coach Davis was selected as the Men's Cross Country SUNYAC Coach of the Year and the USTFCCCA Niagara Region Men's Coach of the Year. He led both the men and women to a second-place finish as a team at the 2022 SUNYAC Championships. Four of the men's runners and two of the women collected All-Conference selections, which also included 2022 SUNYAC Cross Country Hall of Fame Inductees Paul Suflita, Jon Zavala, Dillon VanDemortel, and Kerry Flower. At the NCAA Niagara Regional Championships, the men's team had an all-time performance to place second in the region. Six men and two women earned All-Region honors, as Suflita and Flower both qualified to compete at nationals. Both runners would make history by placing inside the Top-40 on the national stage, earning the status of All-American.
Just Getting Started
Since taking over the program in 2019, Coach Davis has coached several individual runners who became national qualifiers and all-conference selections. Brockport has sent three student-athletes to compete on the national stage and had five All-SUNYAC runners in the opening years of Davis' tenure with the team. In 2023, Davis led the Golden Eagles men's team to a third-place finish at regionals, sending Jared Smith, Jonathan Zavala, and Gabe Winters-Bona to NCAA Nationals. The 2024 season saw Davis guide three athletes to NCAA Nationals for back-to-back seasons (Jonathan Zavala, Charlie Alekson, Patrick Klinger).   Â
Welcome to Brockport
In the summer of 2019, the College at Brockport Athletic Department announced the addition of John Davis as the new Head Coach for the men's and women's cross-country team, as well as the Distance Runners Coach for the men's and women's track and field team. In his first season leading the Golden Eagles he coached a men's cross country runner to an appearance at nationals, which was the first nationals runner for the program since 2010.
Prior Years of Success
Davis kicked off his coaching career as the head boy's track and field coach at Danvers high school, while also serving as the assistant men's and women's cross country/track and field coach at Endicott College. After two years at Danvers and a third at Endicott, Davis earned the role of assistant men's cross country/track and field coach at Ithaca College.
Strong Track RecordÂ
Over his career, Davis helped guide over 20 athletes to conference awards at the collegiate level, while also leading two athletes to national championships in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field.
Â
Davis aims to elevate the Brockport cross-country team and distance unit to new heights, as they pursue conference and national success.
