John Izzo comes to Brockport as a volunteer assistant coach for the Cross Country and Track & Field teams after spending the last 40 years of his life dedicated to teaching and coaching.Â
Izzo is a familiar face in the community as he has held numerous assistant and head coach positions here at the College at Brockport, first from 1979-1984 and then again from 1990-2000. He also spent time as an instructor in the Physical Education department. Izzo then took his career to the University of Rochester where he remained from 2000-2015.
His passion for coaching has left him with a number of honors, awards, and achievements including coaching 11 National Champions, NYSCTCÂ Cross Country Coach of the Year (2013), NCAA Atlantic Region Men's Assistant Outdoor Track Coach of the Year (2011), SUNYACÂ Track Coach of the Year (1996), NYSCTC Cross Country Coach of the Year (2008), and many more.
Izzo has been inducted into a number of Hall of Fame's for his hard work and dedication including the Greater Rochester H.O.F, Section 5 High School Cross Country H.O.F, and the College at Brockport H.O.F.
