Two Decades of Winning
Head coach Gary LaPietra has returned The College at Brockport to the national spotlight since being hired before the 1996 season. In 26 seasons leading the program, LaPietra has accumulated 277 wins, the most ever by a Brockport men’s soccer coach. The Golden Eagles have become a fixture in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament since LaPietra took over the reins of the program. He has led the team to SUNYAC Titles in 2009 and 2018. Since 2017, LaPietra has finished .500 or better in seven straight seasons, including a SUNYAC finals appearance in 2022, and an Empire 8 Semifinals appearance in 2024.

National Showings
LaPietra has lifted the program into the national spotlight since taking over, making six appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Most recently, Brockport earned an automatic bid into the national tournament in 2018 after defeating No. 6 nationally ranked Cortland in the SUNYAC Championship.

Post-Season Honors
He has been chosen as the State University of New York Athletic Conference Coach of the Year four times (2002, 2009, 2018, 2022). Under his direction, Brockport has had three All-Americans, two SUNYAC Players of the Year, two Rookies of the Year, two conference tournament Most Valuable Players, one SUNY Chancellor Award winner, and one Fred Holloway Academic Award winner. In addition, over 100 all-conference selections have come during LaPietra’s tenure.

Success Before Brockport
Before Brockport, LaPietra was the winningest coach in Aquinas High School history. He coached the “Little Irish” to a 91-49-10 record over eight seasons, including the 1992 Section V Class BB Championship and an appearance in the 1992 state semifinals. LaPietra was the Class BB Coach of the Year in 1992. His teams won five consecutive City-Catholic championships from 1990 to 1994.

Personal
LaPietra played college soccer at St. John Fisher, played scholastically at Aquinas, and also played in the Rochester Youth Soccer League and Gates Soccer Travel League while growing up in the Rochester area. LaPietra and his wife, Beth, have three children: Gary Michael, David, and Allison.
