Troy Seymour was hired as the head coach of the storied Brockport wrestling program in the Summer of 2024. Seymour will be primarily responsible for managing all functions and oversight of Brockport's nationally recognized wrestling program.
Seymour comes to Brockport after spending the last five years as an assistant wrestling coach at his alma mater, SUNY Oswego. He was named an assistant at Oswego in 2019 and has since been responsible for administering practices, assisting with strength training and weight management, as well as advising academic progress. With the Lakers, he successfully engaged in the recruitment of student-athletes, and he also facilitated campus tours while contributing to the day-to-day operational duties alongside longtime Oswego Head Wrestling Coach Mike Howard.
Setting the Standard: In his first season with the Green and Gold, Seymour led the program to an undefeated 5-0 start, finishing 6-1 in dual competition on the season. Seymour led Brockport to strong finishes at the New York State Collegiate Championships (2nd place), SUNYAC Championships (3rd place), and the John Summa Invitational (3rd place). He would mentor NCAA Championship qualifier Nick Franco, who finished the season with a 23-7 record.
During his time as a coach at Oswego, he helped pave the way for multiple All-Americans and multiple NCAA qualifiers. He helped coach three Empire Conference champions, six New York State Champions, and over 20 place finishers at states. He also coached eight National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-Americans and 11 NCAA Division III Regional place finishers.
Last season, Seymour helped guide the Lakers to a 33rd-place finish at the NCAA Championships after 174-pound All-American Charlie Grygas placed fifth overall in his weight class. Grygas finished his career as a four-time national qualifier and a three-time All-American under the tutelage of Howard and Seymour.
During his undergraduate days at Oswego, Seymour was a three-year team captain for the wrestling program, where he was an NCAA Championship qualifier, a four-time NCAA Mideast Regional place finisher, and a two-time Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Champion. He recorded over 100 career victories in college. He also spent his freshman year as a Division I wrestler at North Carolina State University.
Seymour also spent time as the head coach at the NAC Wrestling Club in Ellenburg, New York, in the Summer of 2023, where he organized practice plans and managed the development of high school wrestlers. He has spent two years as a camp clinician at the Malone Youth Wrestling Club, where he facilitated practice for up to 50 wrestlers to help them improve their technical ability. He also spent the Summer of 2015 as a head coach at the 1000 Islands Summer Dual Tournament.
He is a member of the NWCA and attended their annual leadership academy in the Summer of 2021, where he completed academy coursework modules while developing skills in fundraising, promotion, alumni engagement, recruiting, community service, and ethical coaching.
Seymour also took leadership training courses during his undergraduate work at Oswego, where he participated in DISC assessment to discover the leadership style of each individual, and he also engaged in discussions about team-wide vision.
In 2019, he graduated from Oswego with a bachelor’s degree in broadcasting and mass communication and a minor in athletic coaching and business administration. He is originally from Plattsburgh, NY.
