SUNY Brockport Athletics

Erick Hart

Dr. Erick Hart

Dr. Erick Hart was appointed Director of Athletics on March 13, 2013, after previously serving as the College’s Associate Director of Athletics. He has been at SUNY Brockport since 2011.

While focusing on the overall student-athlete experience and instilling a sense of pride in Brockport Athletics, Hart directs a nationally ranked, 23-sport NCAA Division III athletics program.  He works closely with coaches and staff along with nearly 700 student-athletes as they strive for academic and athletic excellence.

Most important has been the academic success of Brockport’s student-athletes.  Since his time at the helm of Brockport Athletics, the student-athlete grade point average has been sustained at a 3.0 or higher for all 23 varsity programs. When Brockport student-athletes are compared to the rest of the College’s student body, student-athletes perform as well or better in many important academic categories.  The most impressive academic achievement has been that student-athletes have had a significantly higher graduation rate than the rest of the student body.

Building athletic facilities continues to be one of Hart’s major goals.  He serves on the campus wide facilities planning committee that directs capital initiatives and assists in the planning of facility construction and improvements at SUNY Brockport.  The athletic program has seen some major facility improvements over the past few years.  The brand new $44-million Special Events and Recreation Center (SERC) is home to Track & Field and serves as a practice facility for other intercollegiate athletic programs.  Additional facility improvements include new tennis courts, the newly renovated James B. Fulton Natatorium, a student-athlete weight room and installation of Field turf and lighting on Bob Boozer Field at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium.

At Brockport, Hart oversees the Golden Eagle Society, the comprehensive fundraising organization to support Golden Eagle athletics, which has doubled in size since 2011. Following several successful fundraising campaigns through the Golden Eagle Society, the overall student-athlete experience at the College has been drastically improved.

Brockport student-athletes are also very involved in numerous community service projects within the region and state, including Saves for a Cure (Childhood Cancer awareness), Campus Clean-Up, SUNYAC Leaf Raking Project, Community Canned Food Drive, Winter Coat Drive for the Brockport Clothing Center, SAAC Bears and Blankets, as well as the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged and Special Olympics.

In 2024, Erick completed his Ed.D. in Global Sport Leadership from East Tenessee State University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sport and recreation management from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and his master’s in sport administration from Millersville University.  At Pitt-Bradford, he was a member of the Men’s Basketball program helping the team to consecutive Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) titles.

Prior to Brockport, Hart served as the Assistant Director of Athletics at SUNY New Paltz and was also the Facility Manager at Seton Hall University.

He and his wife Kristy have three children, Ethan, Katie and Maddie.
