Junior Vanessa Gillette (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) scored two goals in the Defiance College Classic to help lead The College at Brockport Women’s Soccer team to two victories over the weekend. Gillette has been named The College at Brockport Female Athlete of the Week.
On day one of the classic, Gillette scored her first career goal as a Golden Eagle 17 minutes into the match against Greenville to give Brockport an early 2-0 lead. Gillette, a first-year transfer student, added an assist less than two minutes into the second half to put the Golden Eagles up 3-0. Brockport would go on to finish off the Panthers 4-0.
The Golden Eagles took on the host Defiance College on Sunday. Gillette added a late insurance goal as Brockport posted a second consecutive shutout, winning 3-0 against the Lady Yellow Jackets. Gillette finished the tournament with two goals, one assist and six shots on goal.
Brockport returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at St. John Fisher for a 7:00 pm nonconference matchup.
