Senior Samuel Taft (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady Christian) has been named The College at Brockport Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 9. Taft was unbelievable at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships this past weekend in the heptathlon.

Taft set a new ECAC Championship record in the heptathlon with 5057 points, which broke the previous mark of 4951 points. Taft was extremely dominant placing first in five of the seven events.

On Friday Taft had a slim eight point lead after placing first in the long jump with a distance of 6.63-meters (21’ 9”), first in the high jump with a height of 1.86-meters (6’ 1 ¼”), second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.33 seconds and seventh in the shot put with a distance of 11.27-meters (36’ 11 ¾”).

On Saturday, Taft broke away from the competition placing first in all three of the day’s events. He ran the 60-meter hurdles in 8.36 seconds, reached a height of 3.92-meters (12’ 10 ¼”) in the pole vault and ran the 1000-meter event in 2:43.78. Taft’s 5057 points during the heptathlon were nearly 400 points higher than the second place finisher!
