Senior Samuel Taft (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady Christian) has been named The College at Brockport Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 16. Taft earned All-American honors over the weekend at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championship.

Facing the best competition that the nation had to offer in the heptathlon, Taft got off to a solid start at Nationals on Friday finishing within the top 10 in three of the four events. His top finish on Friday was in the high jump, tying for fourth with a height of 1.85-meters (6’ ¼”). At the conclusion of day one, Taft sat in eighth place.

On Saturday Taft got out of the gate with a strong start finishing fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.38 seconds. Taft stumbled a bit during the second event of the day, pole vault finishing 13th but then used a great performance in the 1000-meter run, finishing in second with a time of 2:43.27, to push him into seventh place overall during the heptathlon – earning All-American honors.
