The College at Brockport's men's lacrosse team needed a big-time rally during Saturday's State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) home game against Oneonta. Senior Mike Tammaro (Painted Post, NY/Corning West) helped the Golden Eagles keep their SUNYAC postseason dreams alive, tying a school-record with nine points as Brockport rallied for a 14-13 win. Tammaro is Brockport's Male Athlete of the Week.
Tammaro handed out a school-record seven assists and added two goals for nine points, tying Pat Reilly's (Fairport, NY/Fairport) school record, accomplished during a March 28, 2007 game against Medaille College.
The Golden Eagles (5-7 overall, 2-3 SUNYAC) trailed 6-1 at the end of the first quarter, and 7-1 early in the second before Brockport went on a 10-2 scoring run over a 19:07 span of the second and third quarters to take an 11-9 lead.
Tammaro broke his own school record for assists, a mark he shared with Steve Reynolds (2002) and Anthony Ventresca (2005).
The midfielder handed out assists on three straight Brockport goals during a span of 2:30 of the second quarter, and he also assisted on the eventual game-winning goal with 7:49 to play.
On the year, Tammaro has a team-high 26 assists, a team-leading 33 points and seven goals.
