Rachel Csakany Scores 13 in Loss for Women’s Hoops

Golden Eagles drop SUNYAC opener on the road at Geneseo

Rachel Csakany scored nine of her 13 points during the first half.

Junior Rachel Csakany (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) scored 13 points including nine in the first half and led three players into double figures scoring for The College at Brockport Women's Basketball team but Geneseo put together a late first half rally and held on for a 61-52 victory Tuesday night in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game in Geneseo.

Csakany scored five of the first nine points for Brockport (1-5 Overall, 0-1 SUNYAC) as the Golden Eagles built an early lead before Geneseo (5-2, 1-0) responded with a run to take an eight-point lead at 21-13. Junior Bobbi Jean Bryden (New Berlin, NY/Morris) buried a 3-pointer and Csakany added a pair of inside jumpers to trim the lead to just a point at 21-20 with 2:33 left in the opening half.

The Blue Knights scored the final seven points of the half to take a 28-20 lead into the locker room for the halftime intermission.

Early in the second half, a pair of 3-pointers by Desiree Fauvelle (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley) cut the lead to four points with 15:50 left in the half but that was as close as Brockport would get as Geneseo regained the lead and held a double-digit lead for a majority of the second half.

Csakany led the Golden Eagles with her 13 points and also grabbed a team-leading eight rebounds. Fauville scored 11 points and Ellen Story (Catskill, NY/Catskill) added 10 points for the Golden Eagles. Story and sophomore Sarah Alwardt (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) each had seven rebounds. Bryden had nine points and Alwardt added eight points and a team-high three assists for Brockport.
