Freshman Paige Whitney (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) swam the 100 breaststroke in one minute, 18.25 seconds for her first-ever collegiate win as The College at Brockport's women's swimming and diving team defeated Buffalo State 151-119 on Senior Night Friday inside the James B. Fulton Natatorium.

Whitney also placed second in the 500 free (5:45.29), shaving 13 seconds off her previous best time for the Golden Eagles (2-7). Sophomore Chloe Macdonald (Williamsville, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy) was a double-winner for Brockport after she won the 1,000 free (11:26.34), edging out Buffalo State's swimmer by just 0.51 seconds, and also the 500 free (5:39.78).

“This is a huge win for our women, especially heading into the SUNYAC championships,” said Jack Stover III, Brockport's head swimming and diving coach.

“The women's team as a whole definitely stepped up tonight. Chloe started the night strong, she dropped 19 seconds in her 1,000 free from what she swam just last week for her career-best time, and was six seconds off the school record. … Paige, she's a very solid swimmer for us, but there always seemed to be someone who was just a little bit faster than her, so it was great for her to get her first-ever win.”

Among the other individual-event winners for Brockport: Freshman Liz Grillo (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) captured the 200 breaststroke (2:50.54); and sophomore Sarah Eisenmenger (North Rose, NY/North Rose-Wolcott) won the 200 butterfly (2:41.04) while teammate Jackie Rode (Hilton, NY/Hilton) was second.

Brockport's 400 free relay team of freshman Amy Jessmer (Albion, NY/Albion), Eisenmenger, Whitney and freshman Erin Luke (Latham, NY/Shaker) won in 3:57.34.

The Golden Eagles' divers had a great meet against Buffalo State. Senior Dan Brigano (Utica, NY/Proctor) broke his career-high for six dives on the three-meter, scoring 312.60, and he also scored 306.30 on the one-meter to win both events. Both scores eclipsed the qualifying standards for the NCAA Division III national championships. Joining Brigano with qualifying standards were senior Maria Quagliana (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), who won both the one- and the three-meters for Brockport, and sophomore Chris Austin (Naples, NY/Naples). Quagliana scored a 282.90 on the one-meter and a 281.70 on the three-meter while Austin placed second on the one-meter with a score of 280.65 points.

Among the other individual-event winners for Brockport's men, who fell 148-136 to Buffalo State: Sophomore Nathan Dubois (Mendon, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) won the 50 free (22.46) and the 100 free (50.05); junior Chris O'Connell (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North) captured the 200 IM in 2:16.42, out-touching teammate Andy Chouinard (Montour Falls/Watkins Glen ) by just 0.23 seconds to win.

Brockport's 400 free relay team of junior Cody Burns (Kings Ferry, NY/Southern Cayuga), Cornish, senior Josh Atzrott (Cheektowaga, NY/Cleveland) and Dubois won in 3:18.79.

The Golden Eagles travel to Oneonta at 2 p.m. Saturday for their last dual meet before the SUNYAC championships, Feb. 9-12.
