Brockport Falls to RIT on Senior Night

Senior Breanna Horton (Owego, NY/Owego) registered 12 digs and fellow senior Kelly Nowak (Orchard Park, NY/Sacred Heart) delivered 12 kills but The College at Brockport Volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to RIT Tuesday night in the final home dual match for the Golden Eagles and Senior Night at the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium in Brockport.
 
RIT (11-15) won by set scores of 25-21, 25-14, 20-25 and 25-21.
 
In the first set, the teams battled back and forth for most of the set and Brockport (11-15) scored four straight points to tie the score at 16-16. After the Golden Eagles took a 19-18 lead, RIT rallied for seven of the final nine points in the set for the 25-21 win.
 
In the second set, Brockport held the early lead with a 5-2 advantage before the Tigers came back to tie the score at 10-10 before going on a 7-1 run to build a 17-11 lead. With a 19-13 lead a few minutes later, RIT went on another run scoring six of the final seven points for the win.
 
In the third set, Brockport took another early lead at 5-2 and led 10-5 before RIT started to fight back. The Tigers trimmed the lead to 20-18 before Brockport scored five of the final seven points of the set to shave the overall match lead to 2-1 for RIT.
 
Brockport held an early lead again in the fourth set at 7-5 and later in the set, Nowak served four straight points to build a 14-12 Brockport lead. With the score 16-13, RIT rallied for nine consecutive points to take a 22-16 lead. Brockport scored three late points to trim the RIT lead before the Tigers finished off the set to win the match.
 
“It was a good match for our seniors,” said head coach Kelly Greapentrog. “Bre (Horton) had a season-high 12 digs and Kelly (Nowak) played well but in the end they beat us at the net.”
 
RIT finished with 20 blocks and 47 kills in the match.
 
Mary Cocking (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) led Brockprot with 26 digs, Jaime Snyder (Elmira, NY/Thomas Edison) added 19 digs, two aces and combined with Alex Stribing (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) and Jessica Senek (Ransomville, NY/Wilson) for 16 kills.
