The College at Brockport women's soccer team kept their postseason hopes alive with a 2-0 win over host Potsdam in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup on Friday.

The Golden Eagles (9-5-1, 4-4-0 SUNYAC) earned three points for the win, meaning a win on Saturday at Plattsburgh will put them in the postseason. In order to qualify for the SUNYAC playoffs, Brockport must win Saturday's game against the Cardinals.

On Friday, the Golden Eagles out-shot the Bears 14-3. Brockport also held a 3-0 edge in corner kick opportunities. Despite their dominance, the Golden Eagles were unable to score in the first half. Potsdam goalie Dedra Palmer kept the Bears tied with two first-half saves.

Junior Gina Laing (Holland, NY/Holland) netted the game-winning goal in the 74th minute, taking advantage of a free ball in front of the goal on a counter-attack. The marker was Laing's third on the season, and her second game-winner.

Junior Kaila Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) found the back of the net for her team leading fifth goal of the season about six minutes later. Junior Lauren Drago (Scottsville, NY/Wheatland-Chili) was credited with an assist on the play, and the Golden Eagles held on for the 2-0 win.

“We didn't fight as hard as I wanted us to in the first half,” head coach Joan Schockow said. “But we came out strong in the second half and put two away to pick an important win.”

Brockport goalie Erin Asquith recorded her fifth shutout of the year with one save in the contest. Palmer registered five stops in a losing effort.

Brockport travels to Plattsburgh to face the host Cardinals at 1 pm on Saturday with their playoff hopes hanging in the balance.
