BOXSCORE

Three different players scored for The College at Brockport men's soccer team on Senior Day, as the Golden Eagles defeated Plattsburgh 3-1 in Brockport on Saturday. Brockport clinched the No. 2 seed and an opening-round bye in the upcoming State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) playoffs.

Senior Brian Duffy (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and freshmen Paul Altobelli (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) and Kevin Dorn (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hallow Hills East) all tallied goals for Brockport (11-3-1, 8-1-0 SUNYAC). With the loss, Plattsburgh falls to 12-3-2 overall and 4-3-2 in SUNYAC play.

The Golden Eagles asserted themselves in the first half, out-shooting the Cardinals 13-4 in the first half. Brockport also won the battle of corner kicks in the stanza, as the Golden Eagles led 4-0 in chances at the half.

Altobelli had the first good scoring chance for the Golden Eagles about 10 minutes into the game, when he received a pass from freshman Max Egan (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) on the left side. Altobelli appeared to have a good look at the net, but a Plattsburgh defender slid in to block the shot.

In the 34th minute, a penalty inside the box gave Brockport a chance at a penalty kick. Duffy buried the shot into the left side of the net, his fifth goal of the year, to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles took their 1-0 lead into the half.

Just over three minutes into the half, Altobelli notched his sixth marker of the season. Junior Marc Orlando (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) fed a pass through a couple defenders to Altobelli, who scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season from inside the box to put Brockport up by two goals.

Dorn netted his fourth goal of the season in the 70th minute to cushion Brockport's lead. Senior Aubrey Brown (Marathon, NY/Marathon) played a ball into the box that Egan flicked at the goal with a header. Cardinals goalie Andy Heighington made the initial stop, but Dorn was there to knock in the rebound for the 3-0 lead.

Plattsburgh out-shot Brockport 11-4 in the second half, with most of the shots coming after Dorn's goal. Plattsburgh's Pat Shaughnessy scored in a scramble in front of the net in the 77th minute to close the gap, but the Golden Eagles held on for the 3-1 victory.

Senior goalie Kyle Sauln (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) earned the win in goal for Brockport, making seven saves, four of which came in the second half. Heighington registered four stops in the loss.

Brockport will host the winner of a matchup between No. 3 Geneseo and No. 6 New Paltz in the semifinals of the SUNYAC Tournament on Nov. 2.
