BOXSCORE

Junior Kaila Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) put The College at Brockport women's soccer team into the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament with her game-winning goal  in a 1-0 decision over host Plattsburgh on Saturday.

With the win, Brockport (10-5-1, 5-4-0 SUNYAC) passed Plattsburgh (6-6-3, 4-4-1 SUNYAC) for the sixth and final spot in the SUNYAC playoffs.

Maguire gave Brockport the 1-0 lead in the 12th minute of the game, with assist on the play going to senior Arielle Schneider (Plainview, NY/Plainview-Old Bethpage), her first of the season. The goal was Maguire's sixth of the season, which leads the team.

Brockport was out-shot 19-4 in the contest, but the Golden Eagles defense kept Plattsburgh from scoring throughout the contest. All five shots on goal by the Cardinals were saved by Golden Eagle goalie Erin Asquith (Arcade, NY/Pioneer).

“We came together as a team in a must-win game,” head coach Joan Schockow said. “We entered the weekend needing two tough wins on the road and we got both of them. I'm proud of my players for playing so well with all that on the line.”

Asquith earned the win in goal for Brockport, as she recorded her sixth shutout of the season. Plattsburgh goalie Danielle Schmitt made two stops in a losing effort.

The Golden Eagles travel to play SUNY Cobleskill on Tuesday at 3 pm.

After that, Brockport, the No. 6 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament, will travel to Fredonia to face the No. 3 Blue Devils in the SUNYAC Quarterfinals on Oct. 29. In the regular season, the Blue Devils edged the Golden Eagles 1-0 at Fredonia.
