BOXSCORE

Junior Kyheem Green (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) and freshman Jon Ivy (Rochester, NY/East) combined to score 32 points, but The College at Brockport's men's basketball team dropped a tough 69-61 contest at Oswego Friday night.

The Golden Eagles (12-12 overall, 10-7 State University of New York Athletic Conference) welcomed Green back after the dynamic forward missed Tuesday night's loss against Buffalo State after sustaining an injury during the second half of Saturday's loss at Oneonta.

Ivy and Green each scored 16 points, Ivy grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and junior Gerald Williams (Rochester, NY/Charlotte) added 10 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals for the Green and Gold.

Trailing 32-29 at halftime, Ivy and Green scored Brockport's first six points in the second half. When Ivy buried a pair of free throws, the Golden Eagles held a 35-34 advantage, their first lead since a 6-4 edge just 2:07 into the game.

A free throw from Williams upped the lead to 36-34 before Oswego (21-3, 16-1), the first-place team in the SUNYAC, responded with an 8-0 run.

The Oswego lead hovered between three and six points for much of the second half, until, with 8:23 remaining, the Lakers went on a 16-6 run. Oswego led 62-49 with 3:35 remaining, and Brockport wasn't able to get any closer than eight points the rest of the game. Senior Greg Schiefen (Corning, NY/Elmira Notre Dame) buried a '3' and hit a pair of free throws down the stretch to finish up the scoring for Brockport. Schiefen finished with a season-high eight points.

Brockport fell behind by as many as 11 in the first half, and trailed 32-21 with 4:04 left before halftime. Freshman Tyler Ross (West Monroe, NY/Paul V. Moore) made a layup as he was fouled and converted the three-point play, freshman Dorian Hayden (East Northport, NY/Northport) drained a '3' and Williams made a pair of free throws as the Golden Eagles responded with an 8-0 run to close out the half.

The Golden Eagles conclude the regular season on the road with a 4 p.m. tipoff against Cortland Saturday afternoon.

Brockport is guaranteed a first-round home game in the upcoming SUNYAC playoffs, which start Tuesday and run through Feb. 26. Brockport is locked into the No. 4 seed and will host either New Paltz, Cortland, Oneonta or Potsdam Tuesday night inside the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
