BOXSCORE

Sophomore Ellen Story (Catskill, NY/Catskill) scored a team-high 13 points, but Brockport couldn't hold onto an early lead and fell on the road 84-61 to Oswego Friday night.

Despite the loss, the Golden Eagles clinched a spot in the eight-team State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) postseason tournament, which runs Feb. 22-26.

After Friday night's games, Brockport (6-18 overall, 4-13 SUNYAC), Fredonia and Plattsburgh are all tied for seventh in the SUNYAC standings with 4-13 records. The Golden Eagles will travel to Cortland (17-6, 12-5) at 2 p.m. Saturday while Fredonia hosts Plattsburgh at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The winner of Fredonia/Plattsburgh gets the seventh seed in the SUNYAC tournament. Even if Brockport falls to Cortland, the Golden Eagles are assured of a playoff berth, thanks to the tiebreaker process. Brockport would advance on the strength of its 74-67 win over second-seed New Paltz on Jan. 15, 2011.

Brockport fell behind 9-4 before going on an 8-0 run to take a 12-9 lead with 14:19 remaining in the first half. Freshman Alex Leung (Merrick, NY/W.C. Mepham) scored four points while junior Rachel Csakany (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) and senior Bobbi Jean Bryden (New Berlin, NY/Morris) added baskets during the spurt.

Unfortunately for the Green and Gold, Oswego (11-13, 8-9) had an answer for the Brockport run. The Lakers embarked on a 20-0 run over the next eight minutes to take a 29-12 lead, and the Golden Eagles never recovered.

A pair of free throws from Story ended the Oswego run with 6:12 left in the half. Brockport traded baskets with the Lakers the remainder of the half, but Oswego took a 47-24 lead into halftime, thanks largely to a 7 for 9 shooting performance on three-pointers.

Story scored seven points and Leung added six during the half for Brockport, which trailed despite hitting 41 percent of its shots (9 of 22). The Lakers connected on 17 of their 31 first half shots (54.8 percent) and made 10 of their 16 three-pointers for the game.

Story and sophomore Sarah Alwardt (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) combined for 10 points during a four-minute span of the second half, but the Golden Eagles couldn't draw any closer than 18 the rest of the way.

Story added six rebounds and two steals, Alwardt chipped in 11 points and five rebounds and Leung finished with eight points for Brockport.
