RESULTS
A trio of student-athletes with The College at Brockport's outdoor track and field team posted NCAA provisional qualifying standards during Friday's Gator Invitational at Allegheny College.
Senior
Ray Lund (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) placed second in the hammer throw with a season-best effort of 183 feet, nine inches (56.02 meters) to post another NCAA provisional qualifying effort. Lund, the State University of New York Athletic Conference's Most Outstanding Field Athlete from last weekend's SUNYAC championships, also placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 48 feet, 11 3/4 inches (14.93 meters) and was seventh in the discus with an effort of 147 feet, one inch (44.84 meters).
A pair of hammer throwers also posted NCAA provisional qualifying standards Friday: Senior
Stephanie Powell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) placed third in the hammer throw with an effort of 166 feet, eight inches (50.79 meters), while senior
Stacey Gibbins (Eden, NY/Eden) also provisionally qualified with her fifth-place effort of 158 feet, nine inches (48.40 meters). Gibbins also finished eighth in the discus after going 119 feet, eight inches (36.47 meters).
Sophomore
Zach Ferrara (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) finished fourth in the pole vault, clearing 15 feet, five inches (4.70 meters) while freshman
Nate Matthews (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) placed fourth in the 800 meters in a time of 1:53.07. Matthews' time was just 0.31 seconds out of second place.
The Golden Eagles' 1,600 meter relay team of
Kevin Wartinger (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale), Matthews,
Sean Day (Pittsford, NY/Rush Henrietta) and
Cameron Johnson (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) ran in 3:24.28 to place third, 0.07 seconds out of second place.
Junior Zach Hine (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) was eighth in the 200 meters, running in 23.38 seconds,
Among the Golden Eagle women, junior
Becky Fabbiano (Lockport, NY/Lockport) was fifth in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet, eight inches, 3.25 meters while senior
Melissa Scorse (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) placed fifth in the 100 meters in a time of 12.86 seconds.
The Gator Invitational served as Brockport's final tune-up for the 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships, held May 19-20 at Moravian (PA) College.
