WOMEN'S RESULTS MEN'S RESULTS
Two members of The College at Brockport's outdoor track and field team broke or tied school records during Friday's Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) outdoor track and field championships, held at Moravian (PA) College.
Freshman Nate Matthews (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) broke his own school record in the 800 meters. Matthews, who earlier this spring broke Gilbert Cowan's old record of 1 minute, 53.11 seconds from a 1986 meet, finished sixth at ECAC's, running in 1 minute, 52.69 seconds. This outdoor season, Matthews has already trimmed 0.42 seconds off of Cowan's old record.
Senior Brad Frink (Canastota, NY/Canastota) continued the rewriting of the Brockport record book, tying the school record in the 5,000 meters during the ECAC championships. Frink finished seventh in 14 minutes, 53.3 seconds, tying John Trowse Sr.'s record of 14:53.3, set in 1989.
Frink and Matthews were two of several Golden Eagles to earn top 11 finishes during the annual ECAC championships. Senior Stephanie Powell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) placed third in the hammer throw and nearly posted another NCAA provisional qualifying effort.
Powell, who has posted several provisional qualifying efforts for the NCAA Division III national championships this outdoor season, recorded an effort of 49.18 meters to place third at the competition. Senior teammate Stacey Gibbins (Eden, NY/Eden) was eighth with an effort of 46.44 meters.
Senior Melissa Scorse (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) finished fourth in the 100 meters, running in 12.66 seconds, just 0.25 seconds off of the winning time.
The Golden Eagle women finished in 20th place out of 56 teams with 13 points while the men were 25th out of 58 teams with 12.5 points.
Sophomore Zach Ferrara (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) recorded a top-five finish in the pole vault, tying for fourth place after clearing 4.64 meters.
Senior Ray Lund (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) placed sixth in the hammer throw with an effort of 53.37 meters, and the All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) selection also placed ninth in the discus with an effort of 44.11 meters.
Among the rest of the top Brockport finishers: Freshman Kristine Hoover (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) logged an eighth-place finish in the shot put with an effort of 11.99 meters; senior Matt Avery (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) ran the 10K in 32:06.64, good for 11th place while junior Becky Fabbiano (Lockport, NY/Lockport) also finished 11th in the pole vault after clearing 3.26 meters.
This was Brockport's last meet before the NCAA Division III championships, which take place May 26-28 at Ohio Wesleyan.
