BOXSCORE

The College at Brockport men's soccer team didn't score in its home opener on Wednesday, but held Medialle scoreless in a 0-0 double-overtime finish at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field.

The two teams also played to a scoreless tie last season. With the draw, each team's record moves to 3-2-1 in 2011. Both teams played a highly physical game, with 46 fouls committed on the day. There were two yellow cards called in the first half alone, and two more in the second half and overtime.

The first great scoring chance for the Golden Eagles came with 26 minutes left in the first half, when sophomore Kevin Nichols (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) rifled a shot from the left side of the box that clanged off the crossbar. Just three minutes later, sophomore Chris O'Gorman (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) found metal again as he headed a ball off the post.

Brockport came out in the second half as the aggressor, shooting eight times, compared to just four for the Mavericks. With 10 minutes left in regulation, sophomore Bobby Ross saw his shot from point-blank range stopped on a dive by Medialle goalie Nick Kurtz.

Medaille's only shot on goal during the game came in the first minute of overtime, as George Tor got behind the defense and took a shot from about 10 yards away. Brockport senior goalie Kyle Sauln (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) guessed right and made the stop.

The last good scoring opportunity came with a little over seven minutes remaining in the second overtime. O'Gorman had his second chance when a ball trickled out to him on the 18-yard-line, but he struck his shot wide right.

Sauln finished with one save in the contest, and moves his season total to three shutouts. Kurtz registered two saves during the game.

The Golden Eagles have their first conference match on Sept. 23 at home against Buffalo State at 4 pm.
