Freshman Jessica Senek (Ransomville, NY/Wilson) recorded a career-high with nine kills leading a balanced attack for The College at Brockport Volleyball team in a 3-0 victory over D'Youville College Wednesday in a non-conference match at Brockport.
Brockport (7-13) won by set scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-17.
Senek had six of Brockport's 12 kills in the third set as the Golden Eagles recovered from an early 3-2 deficit to score nine straight points to take a commanding lead early in the set. Brockport score seven of the last eight points in the set with Senek connecting on three kills including the set and match winner.
“I really didn't even realize it was my career high,” said the freshman outside hitter. “I have been working hard in practice and the coaches keep telling me that I need to be a little faster. I guess all the hard work is starting to pay off.”
The Brockport attack was balanced across the front line with senior
Kelly Nowak (Orchard Park, NY/Sacred Heart) recording eight kills and junior
Alex Stribing (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) adding seven. Junior
Sarah Zelko (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) had 24 assists and fellow junior
Mary Cocking (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) led the team with 15 digs. Zelko, Stribing and Nowak combined for 10 service aces in the match.
“I was happy to see the balanced attack,” said head coach Kelly Greapentrog. “It was definitely the key to our success tonight. Sarah (Zelko) had a nice serving night with five aces and also had some nice assists.”
Brockport returns to action Thursday night with another home match against Alfred University at 7 pm in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium at Tuttle North in Brockport.
