Freshmen Jaime Snyder (Elmira, NY/Thomas Edison) and Jessica Senek (Ransomville, NY/Wilson) combined for 13 kills in a 3-0 victory for The College at Brockport volleyball team over Alfred at Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium on Thursday night.

Alfred (3-9) was the more aggressive team out of the gates, winning the game's first five points. Brockport (8-13) stormed back, winning 12 of the next 14 points to take a 12-7 lead. The Golden Eagles went on to win the first set 25-20.

In the second set, the Golden Eagles established control of the match. They built up a 15-5 lead before going on an 8-0 run to stretch the lead to 23-5. During the run, Snyder registered two of her six kills in the match. Brockport took the second set convincingly, 25-6.

The third set was more of the same from the Golden Eagles, as they recorded two runs of six points or more to grab a big lead. The Saxons fought back to 22-15, but Brockport's 12 kills and only four errors were too much for the Saxons. Brockport won the final set 25-17.

Senek led the Golden Eagles with seven kills. Senior Kelly Nowak (Orchard Park, NY/Sacred Heart) tacked on six kills of her own. Snyder recorded six kills, eight digs, three blocks and three aces.

“Jaime [Snyder] played incredibly well,” head coach Kelly Greapentrog said. “She was well-balanced on the court, and her effort on the defensive end did not go unnoticed. On offense, she and Jessica [Senek] combined for 13 kills. Our freshmen really showed up for us tonight.”

Junior Mary Cocking (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) led the team with 16 digs. Fellow junior Sarah Zelko (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) moved the ball around well, dishing out 15 assists in only two sets of play.

The Golden Eagles head to Oswego for the Oswego State Invitational on Oct. 7.
