Golden Eagles Upset No. 21 Buffalo State

Brockport scores a season-high 94 points in the blowout

Senior Kyheem Green (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) was one of six players to reach double figures as The College at Brockport poured on the points in an upset win over No. 21 Buffalo State 94-70 at the Vlogianitis Gym on Friday night. Green and the Golden Eagles improved their State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) record to 2-2 while the Bengals suffered their second conference loss in six games this season.

Green finished the game with a team-high 21 points. Also joining Green with double digit points was Derek Klein (Valley Stream, NY/Long Island Lutheran) with a season-high 14, John Ivy (Rochester, NY/East) with 17, Lance Legister (Staten Island, NY/Milbrook School) with 14, Gerald Williams (Rochester, NY/Charlotte) with 13 and Donnell Jackson (Rochester, NY/Edison) with 10.

The first half was a close battle between the two teams as neither side held a lead larger than four. Ivy led the way in the first half with 11 of his 14 points. Klein tied the game at 26 with 2:34 to play on a three-point attempt. Klein hit both his three-point attempts in the first half as the Golden Eagles held a 30-28 halftime lead.

Klein opened up the second half by finding Green streaking towards the basket. Klein lobbed the ball towards the hoop and Green finished the alley-oop. Brockport never slowed down from there as they never relinquished their lead. Williams hit a three with 13:34 to play to put the Golden Eagles up by 11 and Brockport held a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game. Their largest lead of the game came with 2:35 to play when Legister hit two free throws to give Brockport a 28 point advantage, 88-60.

The 94 points are a season-high for Brockport. Brockport shot 62.2 percent from the floor in the second half as they outscored Buffalo State 64-42 in the second stanza. The 64 points in the half were the most for one half of play for Brockport all season. The six players in double figures is also a season-high for the Golden Eagles. Brockport snapped a three-game losing streak to the Bengals with all three losses coming last season, including one in the SUNYAC Championship game.

Brockport takes on Fredonia State tomorrow at the Vlogianitis Gym for a 4 pm SUNYAC contest. The Blue Devils are currently 2-4 in the conference.
