Senior Becky Fabbiano (Lockport, NY/Lockport), junior Nicole Jones (West Charlton, NY/Galway), junior Zach Ferrara (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) and sophomore Nate Matthews (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) all eclipsed the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship meet qualifying standards in the first meet of the season as The College at Brockport Track & Field squads competed at the RIT Invitational Saturday at the Gordon Fieldhouse.
Fabbiano cleared a height of 3.20 meters (10 feet, 2 inches) to finish second overall in the pole vault. Her leap is currently ranked #20 in the nation. Ferrara was also second overall in the pole vault for the men but his 4.70-meter (15' 5”) height was the top collegiate mark of the day and is currently the sixth-best jump of the season in the country. Matthews won the 1000-meter race with an ECAC qualifying time of 2:33.91 and Jones was second in the weight throw and won the shot put with a heave of 12.01 meters (39' 5”).
Other top finishers for the Golden Eagles included Zach Hine (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) with a first place finish in the 60-meter dash and his brother Eric Hine (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) was third in the 400-meters. Dustin Colgan (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) took second in the shot put (top collegiate finisher) and was sixth in the weight throw. Will Johnson (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) was third in the triple jump, Brendon Ganschow (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) was third in the shot put, Moses Barber (Sodus, NY/Sodus) was fifth in the triple jump, Shane Colvin (Hudson Falls, NY/Hudson Falls) was fifth in the 500-meter run.
For the Brockport women, Maggie Needham (Cheektowaga, NY/Depew) was second in the shot put and third in the weight throw, Rachel Malone (Fairport, NY/Fairport) was third in the mile run and fourth in the 800-meters, Violet Yox (Brockport, NY/Brockport) was fourth in the 1000-meters, Megan Mormile (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) was fourth in the high jump and Courtney White (Massena, NY/Massena) was fourth in the shot put.
Additionally, Kristine Hoover (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) finished fifth in the weight throw, Chrissy Wolniewicz (Elma, NY/Iroquois) took fifth in the mile, Britta Januszkiewicz (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) was the fifth-place finisher in the 1000-meter race, Caitlin Moeller (Kingston, NY/Onteora) took sixth in the 800-meters and Gina Medici (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North) was seventh in the 400-meters for Brockport.
