Poor Shooting Night Costs Brockport Women

Golden Eagles fall to New Paltz on the road

Senior Rachel Csakany (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) scored a team-high six points and grabbed eight rebounds but The College at Brockport Women's Basketball team connected on just 16.7 percent of its shots from the field and fell by a 71-23 score to New Paltz Friday night in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game at the Hawks Center in New Paltz.
 
Brockport (3-11 Overall, 0-7 SUNYAC) fell behind early and trailed by 29 points at 40-11 with two minutes to play in the first half. Two free throws by Csakany cut the deficit to 27 points at the halftime intermission as New Paltz (8-7, 6-2) led 40-13 at the break.
 
In the second half, the Hawks scored the first nine points of the period to stretch the lead and limited the Brockport offense to 10 points in the second half. Three of those points came on an Erica Johnson (Malone, NY/Franklin Academy) 3-point basket midway through the second half.
 
For the game, Brockport was limited to 42 shots from the field, hitting seven (16.7%) including Johnson's 3-pointer which was the only long range field goal made by the Golden Eagles. New Paltz connected on 30-of-71 shots (42.3%) from the field.
 
The Brockport defense forced 22 New Paltz turnovers with Desiree Fauvelle recording a team-high three steals.
 
Brockport continues the road trip with a 2 pm game at Oneonta Saturday afternoon.
