Box Score

Freshman Phoebe Byrnes (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) netted a career-high four three-point shots for The College at Brockport Women's Basketball team as the Golden Eagles played a tough first half against Geneseo, but dropped the conference matchup 49-35.

All 12 of Byrnes' team-leading points came from behind the arc as the freshman shot 44 percent from long range. The guard also snatched two steals and grabbed four rebounds on the night. Cecilia Sigrist (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and added nine points.

Byrnes and Sigrist each scored six points the first half as the Brockport defense shut down the Geneseo offense. Geneseo averaged 34 points in the first half in the two previous meetings against Brockport earlier this year, but the Golden Eagles held the Blue Knights to just 19 first half points. Geneseo shot 28.6 percent from the floor and shot just 1-7 from beyond the arc. Brockport forced 12 turnovers in the first.

Byrnes sank a three-point shot at the 14:23 mark to give Brockport a 10-7 lead early on. For the remained of the half, the two teams were caught in three ties and four lead changes. Sigrist connected on a layup with 28 seconds remaining to give a 19-17 edge to Brockport, but Geneseo hit a jump shot just before half to tie the score heading into halftime.

Geneseo came out of the locker room and quickly found their offensive game as the Knights went on a 13-0 run to open the half. Geneseo maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the night as they walked out of Brockport with a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory.

The Golden Eagles held Geneseo to just 34 percent shooting on the night, the second lowest percentage for any Brockport opponent this season. The Knights shot just 4-13 from three-point range as well. Geneseo committed 20 total turnovers against Brockport.

Brockport travels to Oswego on Jan. 31 for a 6:00 pm SUNYAC contest.
