The College at Brockport football team dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) matchup to the Cortland Red Dragons 45-27 on Saturday afternoon at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. The Golden Eagles fell to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in the NJAC. Andrew Mrozek (Depew, NY/Lancaster) caught six passes for 140 yards, including a 67-yard touchdown reception for the Golden Eagles.

On a turnover-filled afternoon, the Golden Eagles fell behind early after Cortland scored a touchdown on its opening possession. The Golden Eagles had two punts and lost a fumble on its first three drives before finding the endzone for the first time. The Golden Eagles turned the ball over six times on the day, including four interceptions and a fumble in the second quarter. Cortland outscored Brockport 21-7 in a critical second-quarter. In total, the two teams combined for nine turnovers in the first half.

Brockport got on the board at the beginning of the second quarter. After taking control of the ball at their own 36 yard line with 3:14 left in the first quarter, Joe Scibilia (North Tonawanda, NY/Starpoint) found 6'6 Kazeem Are (South Orange, NJ, Columbia) on a jump-ball on the side of the endzone. Are out-jumped two defenders on the far-right side of the endzone and came down with both feet inbounds to tie the game at seven.

Cortland came right back on its very next drive to score on a touchdown pass with 12:09 left in the second quarter, taking just 1:48 off of the clock. Brockport went three-and-out on its next possession but held Cortland to a missed field goal on its next drive. On Cortland's second drive of the second quarter, Colby Morabito (Rochester, NY/Hilton) intercepted his fifth pass of the season to regain possession.

Three plays following Morabito's interception, Scibilia threw his first turnover of the day. The Red Dragons scored five players to take a 21-7 lead. The Golden Eagles' offense came together on their next drive, moving the ball effectively down field. On a third and eight play, Scibilia found Mrozek for a 26-yard touchdown pass, but the play was taken away after Mrozek was called for a controversial offensive pass interference call. On the very next play, a third and 23 situation, Scibilia was sacked, causing a fumble.

The Brockport defense picked up the offense two plays later as Kharif Pryor (Brooklyn, NY/Thomas Jefferson) picked off his third pass of the year. The turnovers continued for Brockport though, as Scibilia threw an interception that was returned for a Cortland touchdown and a 28-7 lead entering halftime.

Brockport scored on its second drive of the third quarter as Scibilia kept the quarterback keeper for seven yards, his fourth rushing touchdown of the year. The Red Dragons pulled away with a field goal and a touchdown to end the third quarter leading 38-14. Cortland built its lead to 45-14 on a 58-yard touchdown run with just under 12 minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Scibilia was responsible for his third touchdown of the day after a 67-yard touchdown pass to Mrozek with 9:56 left in the game. Under heavy pressure, Scibilia found Mrozek deep in Cortland territory who then outran the Red Dragon defender for the score. Brockport's final score came late in the fourth as Scibilia floated a ball into the corner of the endzone and into the hands of Tyrone Nichols (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) to make the score 45-27.

Scibilia finished the day with a school-record 64 pass attempts, one more than last year's performance of 63 against Montclair St. Scibilia's final line showed 34-64 for 377 yards and three touchdowns along with 46 rushing yards and the touchdown. With the 34 completions, Scibilia becomes the all-time leader in the category with 493 career completions. The 377 yards are one off Scibilia's career-high of 378 yards from earlier this season against Buffalo State.

Nichols rushed for 58 yards on the day to go along with 42 receiving yards. Mrozek's 140 receiving yards are the ninth most in a single-game in Brockport history.

Defensively for the Golden Eagles, Ross Ragonesi (East Northport, NY/Northport) paced the Golden Eagles with a career-high 11 tackles. Ragonesi had one interception to go with two pass break-ups. Kyle Carman (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) also registered a career-high 11 tackles including one tackle for a loss. John O'Hagan (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) posted 10 tackles on the day.

Brockport returns home next weekend for a conference matchup against Western Connecticut at 1:00 pm. The Colonials are 0-5 in the NJAC.
