Vanessa Gillette (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) continued to make an impact in her first year for The College at Brockport Women's Soccer team as the junior scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Geneseo on Saturday. With the win, the Golden Eagles are now 3-1-1 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) and 9-1-2 overall.

Gillette put home her team and conference-leading 10th goal of the season at the 32:31 mark of the first half. The goal stood for the remainder of the game as Laura Thompson (Victor, NY/Victor) posted her second shutout of the year. As a team, Brockport has now posted six shutouts on the year, including the last two games.

Gillette led the way for Brockport with four shots on the day. The Golden Eagles were outshot by the Knights in the second half after both teams fired seven shots each in the first half. The Knights led outshot the Golden Eagles overall 13-9, but only three of Geneseo's shots were on net as Thompson finished the day with three saves.

Winning against Geneseo has not been an easy task for Brockport in recent years, and head coach Joan Schockow understood that coming into the game. “Anytime you can come down to Geneseo and win it's a great accomplishment” said Schockow. The Golden Eagles had lost three of their last four to the Knights, including the last two at Geneseo. Schockow expanded on the importance of the SUNYAC victory. “To have three SUNYAC wins now is a very positive thing for us.”

The Golden Eagles look to continue their solid conference play against Cortland on Oct. 12 and Oswego on Oct. 13, both road games. Prior to the SUNYAC contests, Brockport will host Wells College on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field for a 4:00 pm matchup.
