Senior
Becky Fabbiano (Lockport, NY/Lockport) set a new school record in the pole vault at the Kent State Open and junior
Nicole Jones (West Charleton, NY/Galway) broke the school record in the shot put at the RIT Open meet as The College at Brockport Men's and Women's Track and Field squads competed in two different events over the weekend.
Brockport sent a small contingent of athletes to the RIT meet Friday night while most of the team traveled to Ohio for the Kent State Open meet Saturday.
The Brockport throwers dominated the RIT meet with Jones winning both the shot put with her school record 12.62 meter toss as well as the weight throw with a 14.50 distance. The Golden Eagles took the top four sports in the shot put with
Maggie Needham (Cheektowaga, NY/Depew),
Kristine Hoover (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington), and
Courtney White (Massena, NY/Massena) finished second, third and fourth respectively. The Brockport throwers all finished hear the top of the standings in the weight throw as well with
Ann Milliken (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) and White taking second and third while Needham captured fifth for the Golden Eagles.
The men's throwers did nearly as well with
Dustin Colgan (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) winning the weight throw with a toss of 16.69 meters and placing third in the shot put.
Brendon Ganschow (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) took second in the shot put and
Antoine Keels (Rochester, NY/East) captured fifth in the event.
At Kent State, Fabbiano finished fifth overall in the pole vault with her school-record height of 11' 7 ¼”. Several other Golden Eagles had impressive finishes at the open competition.
Rachel Malone (Fairport, NY/Fairport) took third in the 3,000-meters,
Violet Yox (Brockport, NY/Brockport) was 11th in the 800-meters,
Caitlin Moeller (Kingston, NY/Onteora) was 14th in the 400-meters while
Sarah Ritchie (Hilton, NY/Hilton) was 16th in the mile and
Alison Massaro (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) was 16th in the 60-meter dash.
For the men,
Nate Matthews (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) was 13th in the 800-meter race,
Matt Avery (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) was fourth in the 5,000-meters and
Zach Ferrara (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) took fourth in the pole vault.
