Women's Hoops Falls to New Paltz at Home

Freshman Phoebe Byrnes (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) scored 14 points for The College at Brockport Women's Basketball team in a losing effort against New Paltz on Saturday afternoon as the Golden Eagles fell 76-50.

Byrnes, who is averaging 14.6 points over her last three games, sank 7-10 free throws on the night. Kelly Grinnell (Auburn, NY/Auburn) finished with eight points. Desiree Fauvelle (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley) and Cecilia Sigrist (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) both contributed seven points. Eight of nine Brockport players to enter the game scored at least two points.

New Paltz built an early lead and stuck to it all game long. The Hawks scored the first 10 points of the game and held a double-digit advantage for the majority of the contest. New Paltz took a 34-14 lead into halftime.

Brockport struggled from the field, hitting just seven field goals in each half. The Golden Eagles did connect on 14 of 19 free throw attempts in the second half and finished the game with 29 attempts from the line. Byrnes, who missed all three of her first half field goal attempts, scored all 14 points in the second half, including Brockport's final 11 points.

Brockport has five State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) games left in the regular season. The Golden Eagles travel to Fredonia State next Friday, Feb. 10 and Saturday, Feb. 11 against Buffalo State.
