Junior Zach Ferrara (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) set the pole vault record for the third straight meet and the men's 4x200 relay broke The College at Brockport record as the Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field squads competed on the first day of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships Friday afternoon at The Armory in New York City.
Ferrara cleared 5.01 meters (16' 5 ¼”) and finished tied for second overall in a three way jump-off to determine first place. It is the fourth time this season that he has broken the school record and the third consecutive meet with a new record. Last week at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships he set the conference, school and meet record with his first place jump.
The 4x200 relay with Zack Hine (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside), Maurice May (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury), Zachary Brown (Brewerton, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) and Eric Hine (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) finished ninth overall just .03 seconds out of eighth place but did set the school record by nearly a full second with a time of 1:31.14.
Dustin Colgan (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) was fifth in the shot put with a career-best throw of 15.64 meters (51' 3 ¾”) as he missed third place by ½” and second by just two inches in a very close finish.
The Brockport women also had three place finishers as Nicole Jones (West Charlton, NY/Galway) took fifth in the shot put, Maggie Needham (Cheektowaga, NY/Depew) had her best career throw to tie for sixth place in the shot put and Becky Fabbiano (Lockport, NY/Lockport) was seventh in the Pole Vault.
