Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at Hamilton

Golden Eagles capture 12 first-place finishes

RESULTS

Senior Dustin Colgan (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and freshman Alison Massaro (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) came home with two first-place finishes each leading The College at Brockport Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field squads at the season-opening Continental Invitational Saturday afternoon at Hamilton College in Clinton.

Colgan won both the hammer throw and the discus with a throw of 51.26 meters (168' 2”) in the hammer and a winning toss of 44.21 meters (145' 0”) in the discus for the Golden Eagles. Massaro was the individual winner in the 100-meter dash with a winning time of 13.30 seconds and was the anchor leg of the winning 4x100 relay with Megan Grace (Alleghany, NY/Alleghany-Limestone), Catelyn Ploetz (Cuba, NY/Cuba-Rushford), Gina Medici (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North) as the relay finished in 51.90 seconds.

Freshman Rachel Malone (Fairport, NY/Fairport) won the 1,500-meters race and classmate Violet Yox (Brockport, NY/Brockport) took top honors in the 800-meters. Sophomore Kelly Burke (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) was first in the 400-meter hurdles while junior thrower Nicole Jones (West Charleton, NY/Galway) was first in the shot put, second in the hammer throw and third in the discus for the Golden Eagles.

For the men, junior Indoor Track & Field All-American Zach Ferrara (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) was first in the pole vault, sophomore Nate Matthews (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) was first in the 800-meters and senior Kevin Wartinger (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) was the top finisher in the 400-meter hurdles event. Triple jumper Will Johnson (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) was first with a leap of 12.49 meters (40' 11 ¾”) and sophomore Brendon Ganschow (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) was first in the shot put at 14.02 meters (46' 0”).

Colgan was third in the shot put, Kurt Zeltwenger (Hornell, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) was second in the long jump and third in the triple jump, Darius Favors (West Haverstraw, NY/North Rockland) took second in the discus and fifth in the shot put and Zack Hine (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) was second in the 200 meters, third in the 100 meters and was the anchor leg in the winning 4x100 meter relay for Brockport. He joined brother Eric Hine (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside), Samuel Taft (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady Christian) and Maurice May (Queensbury,  NY/Queensbury) to win the relay.

Maggie Needham (Cheektowaga, NY/Depew) was second in the shot put, fourth in the javelin and seventh in the discus for Brockport while Kristine Hoover (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) was third in the hammer, fourth in the shot put and fifth in the discus. Chrissy Wolniewicz (Elma, NY/Iroquois) took third in the 1500-meters, Grace was third in the 100-meter dash and Ashley Redino (Getzville, NY/Williamsville) was third in the 100-meter hurdles.
