Zach Ferrara (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) cleared 4.81 meters (15' 9 1/4 “) on his first attempt and finished eighth overall in the pole vault to earn All-America honors at the NCAA Division III National Championship Friday afternoon in Grinnell, Iowa.
Ferrara, the Brockport school record holder in the event, passed on the heights leading up to the 4.81 height and cleared the bar on his first attempt. After three misses at the next height level (4.96 meters – 16' 3 ¼”) seven other jumpers cleared the height to finish ahead of Ferrara.
The ninth-place finisher also cleared the 4.81 height and missed three times at 4.96 but had two misses at the earlier 4.66 height giving Ferrara the advantage and the eighth-place position.
