Three first half goals helped give The College at Brockport Women's Soccer team a 4-0 victory Wednesday afternoon, taking down the Medaille Mavericks at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field. Vanessa Gillette (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) had a goal and an assist on the day while Lauren Drago (Scottsville, NY/Wheatland-Chili) contributed two assists for the Golden Eagles.

Playing in its first home game of the season, Brockport (4-0-1) controlled the game from the very beginning. The Golden Eagles fired four shots on goal and received four corner kicks before knocking in the first goal of the game. Brockport registered season-highs with 24 total shots and 14 on net. Along with Gillette, Kaila Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam), Maria Malone (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), and Brooke Greer (Bloomfield, NY/Bloomfield) all scored goals for Brockport.

Maguire netted her second goal of the season at the 16:19 mark of the first half. Gillette controlled the ball on the right side of the net and found a wide open Maguire to put Brockport on the board. Just over six minutes later, Gillette was on the receiving end on an assist from Sarah Lawson (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) for her team-leading fourth goal of the season. Gillette is also tied for the team-lead with three assists, giving her a team-high 11 points in five games this season.

Brockport had little trouble increasing its lead as Drago played a pass to Malone in the box to put Brockport up 3-0. The points were the first of the season for both players. Drago continued her unselfish play into the second half, coming off the bench to provide a fourth Brockport goal. Fighting through defenders near the Brockport bench, Drago played a cross that split two defenders near the top of the box and found Greer's foot for her first goal of the season.

Laura Thompson (Victor, NY/Victor) played aggressive in net for the Golden Eagles. The sophomore was rarely tested, but made several spectacular saves when she was, finishing the day with four saves in 66 minutes of action. Thompson has now been a part of three shutouts for Brockport this season and improves her record to 4-0-1 on the year. Hannah Conine (Conesus, NY/Livonia) relieved Thompson, making two saves.

The Golden Eagles will be a part of homecoming weekend at Brockport, taking on SUNY ESF this coming Saturday with game time set for 12:00 pm.
