The College at Brockport Women's Basketball team dropped its first game of the new year as the Golden Eagles fell to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent Geneseo 79-42 on Tuesday night.
Cecilia Sigrist (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) led Brockport in scoring for the fourth time this season as the sophomore tied a season-high with 18 points.
Brockport falls to 1-3 in the SUNYAC while Geneseo improves to 3-1 in conference play.
The Golden Eagles kept things close in the opening minutes of the first half. Sigrist connected on a jumper in the lane to pull Brockport within one at 9-8. The Knights put together a 22-1 run over the next nine minutes to pull away. Shannon McGinnis led Geneseo with 20 points while Katie Peterson and Melissa Graham contributed 18 and 14, respectively.
Sigrist grabbed a team-high six rebounds on the night.
Hannalee Fordyce (Amityville, NY/Copiague) came off the bench to grab five rebounds.
Erin Cunningham (Marlboro, NY/Marlboro) played just three minutes on the night but managed to score four points on 2-2 shooting and grabbed a team-high two steals.
Brockport returns to action this weekend with a pair of SUNYAC matchups as the Golden Eagles host Potsdam on Friday night at 6:00 pm and Plattsburgh on Saturday at 2:00 pm. The game against Plattsburgh will feature the first ever “Take Your Kid to a Game Day.”
