The College at Brockport Women's soccer team fell to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival Cortland 1-0 in the final minutes of regulation on Saturday afternoon at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field.

The majority of the game was played in the middle of the field, both teams going back-and-forth. The Red Dragons recorded the first shot of the game at 5:10 off of a corner kick, but the shot went wide of the net.

Elizabeth Wilson (North Tonawanda, NY/Starpoint) tallied the first shot for the Golden Eagles at the 15 minute mark, but the shot sailed over the top of the goal.

Heading into halftime, scoreless, both teams had taken four shots and two corner kicks each.

Cortland took the first shot of the half again, this time just 56 seconds into play. Laura Thompson (Victor, NY/Victor) came up with a save to keep the game tied.

Vanessa Gillette (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) nearly gave Brockport the lead, getting a foot on the ball in front of the net at 56:55, but the Red Dragon goalkeeper was able to come up with an excellent save.

With time winding down, both teams had opportunities to score. Thompson came up with another big save for the Golden Eagles at 88:20. Just 26 seconds later, Cortland scored the first and only goal of the game. Jenny Angione got by the Brockport defense and booted the ball in towards the far post.

The Golden Eagles finished the game with a slight 13-11 advantage in total shots and a slight 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Brockport returns to action on Friday for a 3:00 pm SUNYAC matchup at Plattsburgh.
