Freshman Nik vonStackelberg (Alfred, NY/Alfred-Almond) finished with two strong first place victories as The College at Brockport men's swim team beat Wells 65-28 in the opening meet of the 2013-14 season on Friday evening.
Brockport started the season off on a strong note, winning almost every event throughout the night.
The Golden Eagles started off strong in the 200-yard medley relay.
Erick Zawislak (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield), Stephan Catelli (Fairport, NY/Fairport),
Austin Moyer (Newport News, VA/Woodside) and
Chris Heckman (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) recorded a time of 1:47.34 and cruised to a first place finish.
Braedan Fitch (Hector, NY/Watkins Glen) finished first in the 1000-yard freestyle, beating his competition by nearly a minute with a time of 12:13.37.
vonStackelberg swam well in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:51.19. He also came back later in the night to capture first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:02.12, 41 seconds faster than his competitors.
In the 200-yard IM, Moyer finished in first with a time of 2:07.91.
Other first place finishers for Brockport included
Brett Cohen (Lynbrook, NY/Hewlett) in the 100-yard breast stroke (1:12.90), Heckman in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.81) and Zawislak in the 100-yard back stroke (1:00.46).
The Golden Eagles return to action on November 2 to open the season up at home against Nazareth at 1:00 pm.
