The College at Brockport women's soccer team closed out a weekend of SUNYAC play with their first conference loss, falling 2-0 against Oneonta on Saturday afternoon at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field.

Oneonta came out strong to start the game. The Golden Eagles had some good passing offensively, but the Red Dragons seemed to cut off many of Brockport's early opportunities. Vanessa Gillette (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) had a good chance to score at 8:15, but her shot sailed just wide of the net.

Both goalkeepers made some big saves to keep the score tied heading into halftime.

Despite outshooting the Red Dragons 13-6 in the second half, the Golden Eagles could not find the finish they needed.

Katie Gildemeyer (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) had an excellent shot at 59:17, but the Oneonta goalkeeper came up with a terrific save. A minute later, the Oneonta goalkeeper came out towards the top of the box and saved a shot from Gillette that could have given the Golden Eagles the lead. Gildemeyer managed another great shot at 61:12, but it bounced off the post.

One minute after Brockport came close to taking the lead, Oneonta scored the first goal of the game. The Red Dragon forward was able to dribble past a Brockport defender and put the ball in the top right corner past diving goalkeeper Laura Thompson (Victor, NY/Victor).

The Red Dragons stepped up pressure on the Brockport defense, but the Golden Eagles continued to fight for opportunities in their offensive end.

Unfortunately, the Red Dragons notched a second goal at 77:55. Brockport had a few chances to score as time ran out, Cayli Carmona had a shot that sailed just wide of the net, but the Golden Eagles could not make the comeback.

Brockport returns to action on Saturday at 1:00 pm for a SUNYAC matchup against Geneseo at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field.
