Melanie Melewski Breaks School Record – Again

Melewski leads Golden Eagles with three first-place finishes

Lydia Allen won the 1-meter divng for Brockport against Nazareth

Junior Melanie Melewski (New Baltimore, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) lowered her own school record in the 100-yard breaststroke and added wins in two other events leading The College at Brockport Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving teams in the 2013-14 home opener Saturday afternoon against Nazareth College at the James B. Fulton Natatorium in Brockport.

Nazareth won the team competition for both the men and women with a 153-131 win on the women's side and a 170-123 decision in the men's competition.

Melewski set the school record with her finish in the season opener at Wells last week and trimmed nearly a full second off her record with a winning time of 1:07.48. The junior also placed first in the 200-yard breaststroke and won the 200-yard Individual Medley with a winning time of 2:18.57.

Taylor Schaffert (Lockport, NY/Lockport) was a triple winner as well taking first in both the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events in 1:00.18 and 2:14.71 respectively after helping the 400-yard medley relay with Amy Jessmer (Albon, NY/Albion), Rachel Coia (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) and Erin Luke (Latham, NY/Shaker) win with a time of 4:13.37 in the first event of the day.

Luke added a first place finish in the 50-yard freestyle while Jessmer and Coia each had second-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard butterfly for the Golden Eagles. Alanna Blasting (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) was the top finisher in the 200-yard butterfly and Lydia Allen (Cortland, NY/Cortland) took top honors in the one-meter diving with a score of 207.15.

For the Brockport men, Austin Moyer (Newport News, VA/Woodside) was a double winner with top finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard butterfly. His winning times were 1:50.57 and 2:05.89 respectively.

Nik vonStackelberg (Alfred, NY/Alfred-Almond) was the winner in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:59.82 and Dustin Wurster (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca West) won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.10 for Brockport.
