Five Golden Eagles Headed to Nationals

Seniors Ferrara and Jones lead the contingent to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Nationals

Ferrara is one of five Golden Eagles headed to Nationals

Seniors Zach Ferrara (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) and Nicole Jones (West Charleton, NY/Galway) are two of the five athletes representing The College at Brockport Men's and Women's Track & Field squads at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in competition that begins Thursday at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.

Sophomore Rachel Malone (Fairport, NY/Fairport), junior Nate Matthews (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) and sophomore Courtney White (Massena, NY/Massena) will join the seniors at the championships.

Ferrara qualified in the pole vault after setting the school record last week at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships with a 4.91-meter (16' 1 ¼”) effort. He is ranked 10th on the national qualifier list heading into the championships.

Jones earned a spot in the shot put with her school-record throw of 13.63 meters (44' 8 ¾”) at the Gator Invitational Meet at Allegheny College near the end of the regular season. Jones is seeded 14th according to the final national standings.

Malone is a qualifier in the 10K run with an early-season 36:18.04 time at the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell University in mid-April. Malone is ranked 18th in the country in the event.

White won a spot with a qualifying mark in the discus at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships with a winning toss of 43.43 meters (142' 5”). She is number 17 on the final list of national qualifiers.

Also ranked 17th is Matthews in the 800-meter run. He clocked a winning time of 1:52.08 at the SUNYAC Championships to earn his spot at the championships.

White, Malone and Ferrara are scheduled to compete Thursday, Matthews will run in the final event of the night Friday and Jones is scheduled to compete on Saturday afternoon for the Golden Eagles.
