Peter DiLorenzo (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) and David Rougeux (Canastota,NY/Oneida) both tallied goals in The College at Brockport men's soccer game against Medaille on a rainy Saturday afternoon that ended in a double overtime 2-2 draw.

The Golden Eagles had control on offense in the first half. Brockport had many good looks early, but struggled to finish. The slippery conditions on the field from hours of rain did not help either team. The Mavericks played strong defense, stopping many of the good scoring opportunities the Golden Eagles had.

Brockport took advantage of a Medaille yellow card and scored the first goal of the game with under five minutes to play in the first half. DiLorenzo received a nice pass from Collin Goettel (Rochester,NY/Spencerport) dodged a Maverick defender and knocked in a goal.

Medaille amped up the offensive pressure in the final minutes of the half, but the Golden Eagle defense and goalkeeper Casey Sullivan (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) were able to keep Brockport ahead.

Rougeux netted the first goal of his career at 59:59 to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead. Bobby Ross (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) had a header that nailed off the cross bar and Rougeux collected the rebound and scored.

Nine minutes later, the Mavericks scored, leaving Sullivan's scoreless streak at 497:27. Sullivan misjudged a shots and a Maverick forward was able to tip the ball past him and walk it into the goal.

The Mavericks tied up the game at 81:14 with a penalty kick.

In the final minutes of regulation, both teams had opportunities to take the lead, but neither could come up with a finish.

The Golden Eagles played strong in overtime, outshooting the Mavericks 9-0, but once again could not come up with the finish they needed.

During the first overtime, Ross had a perfect header that went just wide of the goal and no other Golden Eagle was able to tip it in.

Chris O'Gorman (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) came inches away from scoring in the second overtime, but with 7:00 remaining his shot went just over the cross bar. The Golden Eagles had another perfect opportunity to score with 3:00 left as Ross carried the ball into the box, but the official took away the advantage and stopped the play, calling a foul on Medaille. Brockport continued to pressure the Mavericks defense. With 30 seconds left Brockport missed an open net with a botched kick, keeping the score tied.

"I am proud of the way our team has played for the first few non-conference games of the year," said head coach Gary LaPietra. "We put together a challenging non-conference schedule to prepare us for the SUNYAC games and we played well in those games."

Brockport remains undefeated with five wins and two ties.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday at 4:00 pm for the first SUNYAC game of the season against Fredonia at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field.
