The Golden Eagles were able to come from behind to defeat the Cardinals 2-1 for their third win of the season.
St. John Fisher jumped out to an early lead with a goal just 6:30 into the first half. A Cardinal forward collected a textbook pass from a teammate and ripped a shot into the back of the net. The Golden Eagles had some early opportunities to tie things up, but could not finish.
Brockport continued to fight and was able to put some high pressure on the Cardinal defense in the last few minutes before halftime.
Annie Terilli (Brockport, NY/Brockport) had a beautiful corner kick for the Golden Eagles at 42:57. Seconds later, junior
Kari Gehrke (Belleville, NY/Belleville-Henderson) knocked in a solid header past a diving St. John Fisher goalkeeper to tie up the game. Gehrke's goal was the first of her career at Brockport and gave the Golden Eagles the edge they needed.
The Golden Eagles came out ready to take back the lead in the second half, taking five shots in the first five minutes. The high pressure attack worked out well for Brockport as Gillette recorded her third goal of the season to give the Golden Eagles the lead at 61:53.
Despite losing their lead, the Cardinals continued to test the Brockport defense.
Laura Thompson (Victor, NY/Victor) came up with some big saves in the second half to help the Golden Eagles seal the victory. Thompson recorded a total of five saves.
St. John Fisher finished the game with 17 shots, while Brockport tallied 16. The Golden Eagles were able to take advantage of their six corner kicks compared to zero for the Cardinals.
