Vanessa Gillette (Fredonia, NY/ Fredonia) scored late in the second half for The College at Brockport women's soccer team, but it was not enough as Golden Eagles fell 2-1 to Nazareth.
Brockport started up the game with control on offense. The Golden Eagles were able to get off five shots in the first seven minutes, but struggled to find the back of the net.
The Golden Flyers found a way to take control, peppering goalkeeper
Laura Thompson (Victor, NY/Victor) with shots. At 20:27, Nazareth took a shot that was blocked, but the same player collected up the ball again and knocked in the first goal of the game.
As the rain kept pouring down, Nazareth kept pressuring on offense. The Golden Flyers scored their second and eventual game-winner at 30:42 off a botched kick that a Nazareth forward was able to scoop up and chip over Thompson's head, into the net.
In the second half, the Golden Eagles were able to gain control in their offensive end. Gillette cut the Golden Flyer lead to one with a goal at 83:37. Gillette scored off a rebound from a shot blasted by
Katie Gildemeyer (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker). With time running out, Brockport could not find the finish they needed for a victory.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday at Marywood University for a 1:00 pm contest.
