Senior Brendon Ganschow (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) and junior Byron Jones (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) each won events, helping The College at Brockport men's track and field team secure a second place finish on Saturday at the Saints Indoor Invitational hosted by St. Lawrence University.
St. Lawrence won the team title with 186 points. Brockport finished with 155 points. The Ottawa GG's came in third place (123) while Utica came in fourth (42).Oswego finished fifth (34), Delhi in sixth (29), Plattsburgh in seventh (20), Mohawk Valley CC in eighth (18), Clarkson University in ninth (6) and Royal Military College finished in tenth (3).
Ganschow took the top spot in the shot put with a throw of 15.81 meters. The Golden Eagles were strong in the shot put, placing four men in the top nine spots. Antoine Keels (Rochester, NY/East) finished in second place with a throw of 15.11 meters. Ganschow and Keels throws both qualified them for East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships. Darius Favors (West Haverstraw, NY/North Rockland) finished in fourth place, while Jon Rogers (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) placed ninth.
The men also finished strong in the weight throw, taking the second third and fourth spots. Ganschow placed second with a throw of 14.79 meters, while Keels finished in third with a throw of 14.59 meters. John Bicocchi (Commack, NY/Commack) and Favors tied for fourth place.
Jones earned Brockport's other top spot of the day with a first place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 13.37 meters.
In the one mile run, Gary Messina (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) took second place, finishing in 4:30.30 and beating out a St. Lawrence runner by less than two tenths of a second.
Samuel Taft (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady Christian) took second place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.69.
Zachary Brown (Brewerton, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) earned himself a second place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.23. Brown also finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.37.
In the 500-meter dash, Alex Gibbons (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) recorded a time of 69.26 for a second place finish.
Andrew Baker (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) finished the 3000-meter run out strong to earn third place with a time of 8:50.93.
In the distance medley race, Brockport's team of Shaun Kurcoba, Ben Seiderman (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post West), Colin Kerr (Macedon, NY/James A Benewey) and Messina placed second with a time of 11:22.65.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday at 10 am at the Hamilton Continental Invitational.
