Box Score Sophomore Erin Cunningham (Marlboro, NY/Marlboro) scored a layup in the final seconds to lift The College at Brockport women's basketball team over Oneonta in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game on Friday night.

Oneonta (12-4, 6-3 SUNYAC)) jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead at the beginning of the game.

Turnovers plagued Brockport (7-7, 3-4 SUNYAC) in the opening minutes. Cunningham was the first to score for the Golden Eagles, hitting two free throws at 15:28. She followed up with a layup 30 seconds later to cut the Red Dragons lead to two.

Oneonta held onto their lead for the majority of the half. Freshman Faith Welch (Albany, NY/Catholic Central) tied things up at 15 on a layup with just over eight minutes to play.

Alexandra Marshall (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) gave the Golden Eagles their first lead of the game with a free throw at 6:46.

Brockport closed out the half on a 14-7 run. During the run, Welch recorded 10 of the 14 points. The Golden Eagles headed into halftime with a 29-22 lead.

The Red Dragons opened up scoring in the second half with a quick basket, but Welch followed it up with a jumper to keep the Golden Eagles ahead by seven.
Bree Fortney (Lorain, OH/Lorain) drained a three pointer at 13:00, giving Brockport a 13 point lead, the largest of the game.

Oneonta made a comeback in the final 10 minutes of the game, slowly chipping away at the Brockport lead. With 4:14 left, the Red Dragons hit a three pointer to tie the game up at 49.

Welch made a layup and later hit a free throw to give the Golden Eagles back a three point lead at 3:48, the Red Dragons went ahead by a point with two free throws at the 1:15 mark.

In the final minute of play, both teams struggled to score.

With three seconds on the scoreboard, Cunningham scored the game winning shot on a layup.

As a team, the Golden Eagles shot 37.5% (18-48) from the floor, 38.5% (5-13) from long range and 81.3% (13-16) from the free throw line.

Welch led scoring with 17 points and also pulled down a team-high five rebounds. Cunningham, Marshall and Anna Feller (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) each added eight points.

The Golden Eagles return to action at 2pm on Saturday afternoon at New Paltz for another SUNYAC matchup.
